| Process |
Zinc coating process similar to mechanical plating, but where the items being coated are heated to about 300-400C and diffusion of the zinc onto the surface happens forming an alloy coating similar to galvanizing. The zinc does not melt though, this is a "dry" process. Typically used for fasteners and small fittings. |
| Strengths |
Conforms to the substrate well, making it very suitable for threaded components. |
| Weaknesses |
Uniformly matt grey appearance. Only suitable for small items (under 250mm), and not readily available as there are few factories. |
| Durability |
Similar to galvanizing, dependent on the coating thickness. |
| Cost |
£500 - £1000 per tonne, or £20 per sq m |
