Process Zinc coating process similar to mechanical plating, but where the items being coated are heated to about 300-400C and diffusion of the zinc onto the surface happens forming an alloy coating similar to galvanizing. The zinc does not melt though, this is a "dry" process. Typically used for fasteners and small fittings.
Strengths Conforms to the substrate well, making it very suitable for threaded components.
Weaknesses Uniformly matt grey appearance. Only suitable for small items (under 250mm), and not readily available as there are few factories.
Durability Similar to galvanizing, dependent on the coating thickness.
Cost £500 - £1000 per tonne, or £20 per sq m
Health and Safety Factory controlled process.
Environmental Factory controlled process.
