Process Rarely found (now), this system is where the term "oil based" really comes from. Oils such as Linseed carry a pigment which becomes the coating as the oil "dries" (actually reacts with oxygen, or moisture to harden).
Strengths Cheap, but now superseded by more modern coatings.
Weaknesses Tendency to become brittle and crack.
Durability 3-5 years
